THE SOLICITORS REGULATION AUTHORITY DELVES ONCE AGAIN INTO RACE DISPARITY IN INVESTIGATIONS

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has appointed a team of researchers from three universities for its latest probe into why a disproportionate share of solicitors complained about and investigated are from minority ethnic backgrounds.

The commission is a response to a commitment made 18 months ago to address the issue when the SRA first published comprehensive data on the disparity in disciplinary outcomes. Over the past decade and a half, the regulator had run a series of external pieces of research looking into the issue. It commissioned a major review which was published in 2014.

'MORE BLACK, ASIAN AND MINORITY ETHNIC TEACHERS ARE NEEDED IN SCHOOLS, SAYS GLASGOW MSP

The statistics led Kaukab Stewart, Glasgow Kelvin SNP MSP, to call on the Scottish Government to urge councils to do more work to get more people from minority backgrounds into the classroom.


The latest statistics, highlighted by the MSP, show in 2017 there were 1.2% of primary teachers and 2.1% of secondary teachers from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. By 2021, those figures had risen to only 1.4% and 2.7% respectively.

According to research by Oxford University, candidates in the UK are up to 60 per cent less likely to receive a callback for a job if they have a “foreign sounding” name. This means that when Emma and Uzma submit identical CVs, Emma will be asked for twice as many interviews as Uzma.

THE ELEPHANT PARADE

on the the 10th of April, 2 life-sized elephant statues were paraded from the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple on Gypsy Lane in Leicester, to the end of Belgrave Road. 
This was organised in honour of Khun Vichai, the former owner of Leicester City Football Club

OPERATION ZENON

15.04.2022

Operation Zenon was the first International aid mission taken on by The Integration Foundation. Urgent supplies were brought to the Polish-Ukrainian border, where some 2 million refugees had passed through. The supplies were brought on a van and driven all the way from Leicester to the border, where they were received by the charity Caritas.

REVEREND JESSE JACKSON

Reverend Jesse Jackson is a Civil Rights Icon, a Baptist Minister and a Politician

Throughout his life, Rev. Jackson rallied against the Racial segregation Laws of Jim Crow, racial prejudice during his academic years, and organised many Civil Rights protests

MALALA YOUSAFZAI

Malala Yousafzai Malik is a female education rights activist and Author from Pakistan, who won the Nobel peace Prize Laureate aged just 17 years old; the youngest person to ever win the award. 

in 2012, Malala was shot by the Taliban in retaliation to her activism for female education, but she survived and continued her important goal for womens' rights to education

MALORIE BLACKMAN

Distinguished Author Malorie Blackman was born in Clapham. She has been a trailblazer in literature for decades, with her children's books such as Noughts and Crosses approaching complex topics of race and other social issues. 

To date, she has written over 60 children's books, and was the Children's Laureate from 2013-2015.

BARONESS AMOS

Baroness Valerie Amos of Brondesbury was appointed a Labour life peer in 1997 and was the first black woman to serve as a Minister in the British cabinet and in the House of Lords. She has consistently sustained an interest in, and a commitment to, development issues, and to equality and human rights.
Valerie served as UK High Commissioner to Australia before joining the UN in 2010 as Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

The Integration Foundation is an organisation established in December 2019 to for the following purposes:

  • Acknowledge and respect the different needs of the diaspora communities

  • Integrate communities

  • Provide diaspora communities with access to decision makers

  • To cut through red tape enabling communities that do not know issues of governance how do address these issues

  • To campaign on issues that are of interest to the diaspora communities

  • Meeting global challenges
